Job TitleThe City of Lynchburg is an Equal Opportunity Employer PositionJob DescriptionPosition serves as the initial point of contact for the clients seeking benefits and/or services. Duties include understanding and explaining basic benefit program information, making appropriate referrals, assisting clients with applications, and researching information needed.Essential DutiesEssential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties necessary to deliver services to customers and citizens may be assigned.Analyzes needs and coordinates resources that will support families/clientsServes as point of contact for clientsAssists clients with completing applications and performs initial screening of applicationsAssesses and makes appropriate referrals to internal and external resources as neededResearches a variety of databases (including local and state agencies' databases) to obtain and/or verify information needed to process applications. Attaches information to applications for documentation purposesMakes photocopies of documents for case filesMaintains complex logs and records, forwarding data to appropriate staff member(s)Performs data entry tasks regarding case filesUpdates databases, client files, and other automated records as neededSchedules appointments for clients to meet with staffProvides information regarding programsAssists in the preparation of periodic, special, and other reports for statisticsPerforms clerical support functions such as receiving and directing telephone calls and visitors, preparing correspondence, etc.Regular attendance is requiredAdditional duties and responsibilities include the following:Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assignedWhen unusual situations occur and/or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency, all City employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate service deliveryRequired to participate in emergency operations as neededMinimum Education and Experience RequiredTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and experience requires an Associate's degree in business related field and considerable experience (2+ years) in public administrative support, working with a diverse population. An acceptable combination of education and experience may be substituted for the education requirement. Requires ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel as well as other computer programs used to determine eligibility.Additional RequirementsMust successfully complete Criminal Records background check and Child Protective Services Registry Check. Possession of valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia and acceptable driving record according to City criteria. Must successfully complete IS100 and IS700 National Incident Management (NIMS) training within 90 days of employment. May also be required to complete higher levels of NIMS training as determined appropriate for the position.
