Adjunct Instructor - Sterile ProcessingCollege of the Mainland is seeking adjunct instructors who will play a key role in educating and supporting students in the Sterile Processing program.Position Title: Adjunct Instructor - Sterile ProcessingFLSA: ExemptContract Length: N/APosition Type: Exempt StaffEmployment Status: Part TimePosition Funding: RegularMinimum Education/Training/Experience: High School Diploma; Equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job; 3 years' experience in the healthcare field related to the program intending to teach-Licensing and/or Certification as the healthcare program intends-Principles and practices of teaching-Detailed knowledge of material being taught in the program area-Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with students, coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work directionPreferred Education/Training/Experience: Associate's Degree or higherMinimum Knowledge & Skills: Medical terminology, bedside manner, infection control, clinical skills and techniques, health promotion and maintenance, creating a safe, effective environment, informing others-Knowledge of the theory, skills, and job duties of the healthcare program intending to teach; lab set up, clinical rotation, troubleshooting, and operation of related equipment-Basic computer literacy sufficient to perform job duties such as using Microsoft Office-Knowledge of student engagement techniques, learning styles, retention strategies, and learning-centered philosophy-Experience with or willingness to learn latest teaching/learning technologies-Record keeping procedures-Written and oral communication commensurate with position and level of education, and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with students, coworkers, supervisors, and the general publicPreferred Knowledge & Skills: Attention to detail – ensuring all instruments and equipment are properly cleaned, sterilized, and organized. Knowledge of sterilization procedures – understanding the various methods and protocols for disinfection and sterilization.
Technical aptitude – ability to operate and troubleshoot sterilization equipment and technology. Time management – efficiently managing tasks to meet surgical schedules. Teamwork – working well with medical staff and colleagues in a fast-paced environment.
Physical stamina – standing for long periods and handling surgical tools and trays. Strong communication skills – providing clear updates and documentation. Relevant educational background in healthcare, biology, or microbiology.Job Duties: Primarily responsible for teaching students the theory and practical skills required to become a sterile processing technician, including classroom instruction, hands-on laboratory demonstrations, and assessment of student competency in decontamination, cleaning, assembling, packaging, and sterilization of medical instruments, while maintaining a safe and effective learning environment and adhering to industry standards; key duties include developing curriculum, delivering lectures, supervising lab activities, evaluating student performance, and ensuring compliance with program guidelines.Licensing/Certification Requirements: Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) or Certified Surgical Instrument Specialist (CSIS)Physical Requirements: Positions in this class typically require: stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions-Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
