For more information, please visit southside.eduTurn curiosity into career pathways—teach criminal justice to the next generation of college students.The Criminal Justice Dual Enrollment Adjunct Instructor is responsible for teaching college-level criminal justice courses to high school students participating in the dual enrollment program at Mecklenburg High School. The instructor will provide engaging instruction, maintain academic standards consistent with Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) and the Virginia Community College System (VCCS), and support student success in both secondary and postsecondary learning environments. Applications will be received, reviewed, and considered continuously until needed positions are filled.Course Content & Specific Duties:Teach assigned criminal justice dual enrollment courses in accordance with approved curriculum and course objectivesDevelop and deliver instructional materials, lectures, assignments, and assessments that promote student learning and engagementMaintain accurate attendance, grades, and student records in accordance with SVCC and Mecklenburg County Public Schools policiesFoster a positive, inclusive, and professional classroom environmentCommunicate effectively with students, parents, high school administrators, counselors, and college personnel as neededAdhere to all college and school division policies, procedures, and academic standards.Participate in required training, meetings, and professional development activitiesUtilize instructional technology and online learning platforms effectivelyEncourage student interest in criminal justice careers and postsecondary educational opportunitiesSubmit required reports, syllabi, and documentation in a timely manner* Submission of the online application should also include a resume and all transcripts of all college work completed, or it may not be reviewed.Minimum Qualifications:Master's degree in Criminal Justice from a regionally accredited institution or Master's degree in another discipline with at least 18 graduate semester hours in criminal justice.Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.Ability to work effectively with high school and college students from diverse backgrounds.Proficiency with instructional technology and learning management systems.Ability to develop learning strategies, curriculum, and assessmentsUnderstanding of and commitment to the mission of the community college and student successAdditional Considerations:Teaching experience at the college level, specifically with face-to-face and online/hybrid modalities.Competency using instructional technologies such as SMART boards, Zoom and Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).Prior teaching, training, or instructional experience preferred.Demonstrated commitment to student engagement and academic success.Experience teaching dual enrollment, community college, or high school students.Professional experience in law enforcement, corrections, courts, probation/parole, or related criminal justice fields.Experience with online or hybrid instruction.Each agency within the Commonwealth of Virginia is dedicated to recruiting, supporting, and maintaining a competent and diverse work force.
