Description

Under the general supervision of the Division Dean, the AdjunctAssociate Professor of Engineering teaches organized classesprimarily in the engineering discipline(s); the primaryresponsibility is to teach up to 10 units (part-time) in theassigned discipline.

Responsibilities and Duties

Duties and responsibilities may include, but not limited to the following:

  1. Instruct courses in engineering in accordance with creditcourse outlines approved by the Board of Trustees.
  2. Maintain expertise in current teaching methods, disciplineknowledge, and discipline specific technologies.
  3. Assist students in achieving stated course objectives. Evaluatethe progress of each student and notify students in need of counseling services and/or tutorial assistance. Track studentlearning outcomes and maintain records of student learningoutcomes.
  4. Participate in the departmental process of curriculum review,modification, and the assessment of student learning outcomes inorder to make the program successful.
  5. Support the Division Dean in cooperating with campus andcommunity groups to provide programs, courses, and informationrelevant to the needs of the students and various programs.
  6. Coordinate with other faculty in the selection of textbooks,audiovisual and other instructional materials.
  7. Complete various reporting procedures as required for studentevaluation, course reporting and budget development.
  8. Assist the Division Dean in the preparation of required reportsby providing requested information.
  9. Attend various departmental, divisional and campus-wideactivities and events as required.
  10. Plan and complete approved professional development flexactivities each semester.
  11. Perform other necessary duties as assigned by the Division Deanand as outlined in Board Policy.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's in any field of engineering
    OR Bachelor's in any of the above
    AND
    Master's in mathematics, physics, computer science, chemistry, orgeology
    OR
    the equivalent.
    (NOTE: A bachelor's in any field of engineering with a professional engineer's license is an alternative qualification for this discipline).
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic,socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience in teaching postsecondary courses inengineering.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt teaching strategies andtechniques to different levels of students' ability and learningstyles.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt teaching strategies andtechniques to students from different cultures and ethnicgroups.
  • Demonstrated ability to use innovative and creative teachingtechniques and equipment, including the use of multimedia hardwareand software and on-line instructional techniques.
  • Demonstrated leadership in developing curriculum for disciplinespecific courses and/or programs.
  • Demonstrated leadership, ability, and desire to stay current inthe field.
  • Demonstrated leadership and ability to work with business andindustry in order to coordinate the educational program with theneeds of the community.
  • Interest in or knowledge of teaching online and other distanceeducation courses.
