Adjunct Assistant Professor, Microbiology

Job Description Summary

Adjunct Assistant Professor, Microbiology, reports to a chair or director and is responsible for designing, delivering, and evaluating courses. The role requires subject matter expertise, ongoing professional development, and effective communication within the College and department.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver microbiology courses, including face‑to‑face, evening, online, and other distance‑learning formats.
• Plan, organize, and teach coursework that optimizes student access, retention, and success.
• Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop, evaluate, revise, and enhance curriculum for mastery of material.
• Provide timely assessment, clear feedback, and maintain accurate student records (attendance, grading, learning outcomes).
• Honor student confidentiality and privacy in accordance with laws, regulations, and college rules.
• Proctor examinations and participate in departmental meetings.
• Maintain office hours proportional to instructional assignments and provide courteous, informed, and professional service.
• Assist with implementing college policies, objectives, and functions in line with the college mission, vision, goals, and strategic initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Biology or a master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in any combination of the following qualifying fields:
  • Animal Sciences
  • Biochemistry (emphasis on cell physiology)
  • Biology
  • Biostatistics
  • Biotechnology
  • Cell Science
  • Cytology
  • Epidemiology
  • Food Microbiology
  • Immunology
  • Medical Entomology
  • Medicine
  • Metabolism
  • Microbiology
  • Molecular Biology
  • Prokaryotic Biology
  • Veterinary Medicine
  • Virology
• A professional degree (MSN, MD, DO, DVM, or other advanced clinical degree from a nationally accredited institution) may satisfy the degree requirement.
• A criminal background check will be conducted.
• Preferred: Relevant teaching experience within a community‑college setting.

General Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• High level of interactive service delivery and collaboration across the organization.
• Effective communication skills with students, faculty, and staff at all levels.
• Proficient computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule at multiple sites and to work well in a diverse, multicultural environment.
