Role Description
The Activities Director is a full-time, on-site role based in Walkersville, MD, responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing a comprehensive activities program for residents. This role includes developing daily, weekly, and monthly recreational and therapeutic activities that support social engagement, cognitive stimulation, and emotional well-being. The Activities Director collaborates with nursing, therapy, and social services teams to tailor programs to residents’ individual needs and preferences, and coordinates special events, holiday celebrations, and community outings. The position also involves managing activity budgets, maintaining accurate documentation, supervising and scheduling activity staff and volunteers, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and facility policies.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess strong Communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with residents, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Candidates should possess Recreation and Therapeutic Recreation skills to design engaging, person-centered programs that support residents’ physical, cognitive, and emotional health.
- Candidates should possess Event Planning skills to coordinate group activities, special events, and community-based programs within the facility.
- Candidates should possess Budgeting skills to manage activity-related expenses, resources, and supplies in a cost-effective manner.
- Relevant qualifications may include a degree or certification in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, Activities Management, or a related field, and experience in long-term care or skilled nursing settings.
- Additional beneficial qualifications include strong organizational skills, creativity in program development, proficiency with basic computer applications, and the ability to comply with regulatory standards and facility policies.
