Join our team and help strengthen the financial foundation behind services that support children and families across Rhode Island.What You'll Do:The Accounting Manager role is critical to maintaining the financial discipline, operational consistency, and stewardship that support Children's Friend's mission and long-term sustainability. The right candidate will possess strong accounting experience, judgment, steady leadership, and a commitment to accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement.Lead daily accounting operations, including general ledger activity, journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end closeHire, supervise, coach, and develop a team of individuals on the Finance team (up to 10 max).Prepare and review financial statements, reports, and supporting documentationReview balance sheet reconciliations, investigate variances, and resolve issuesMaintain internal controls, accounting procedures, and audit-ready recordsMonitor compliance with grants, contracts, donor restrictions, and funding requirementsCoordinate annual audits and external reviewsPartner with HR, program, and operations teams to support accurate financial reporting and codingIdentify process improvements that increase consistency, accuracy and efficiencyHelp create a team environment grounded in accountability, professionalism, and developmentWhat You Bring:Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field10 years of progressive accounting experience, with 3-5 years being in a supervisory roleStrong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controlsExperience in nonprofit, government, or grant-funded environmentsProven ability to lead and develop accounting staffWork EnvironmentOn-site presence will be required. This is a hybrid position requiring both remote and onsite work.
