A prestigious New York-based cultural institution is seeking an Accounting Manager to join its growing finance team.
About the Role
Reporting directly to the Controller, this is a highly visible, hands-on role supporting financial reporting, month-end close, donor revenue accounting, audits, and process improvement initiatives.
Location: Hybrid NYC, 3x/week in office
Compensation: $120K-$130K base (no bonus)

Responsibilities:
- Manage general ledger activity, account reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close
- Prepare financial statements, variance analyses, and supporting schedules
- Oversee donor and contribution accounting, including restricted and unrestricted gifts
- Maintain donor-restricted fund schedules and revenue recognition in accordance with nonprofit accounting standards
- Support annual audits, Form 990 preparation, and compliance requirements
- Partner with Development and other departments to reconcile donations, pledges, and revenue activity
- Identify and implement process improvements while helping clear accounting backlogs
- Supervise a Junior Accountant
Qualifications:
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Nonprofit accounting background required
- Strong experience with individual donations/contributions
- Knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting
- Experience with month-end close, financial reporting, audits, and fund accounting
- Advanced Excel skills
