Accounting ManagerThe Accounting Manager is primarily responsible for overseeing the daily accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP standards and maintaining compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.Duties and Responsibilities of the PositionManage monthly financial close and reporting for approval by the CFORecord daily revenue recognition including cash deposits and merchant account activity. Ensure timely cash bank deposits to minimize cash on hand.Ensure invoices are paid timely and coded properlyRecord expense accruals, as necessaryAssist in preparing monthly financial statementsReconcile balance sheet accounts to the general ledgerLiaison with Development Department to ensure donations and grants are properly recorded. Reconcile the donor database to financial recordsSupport the CFO in the annual audit and tax reporting process.

Manage financial audit and tax preparation information requests and schedules from external auditors and tax advisorsEvaluate existing processes and make recommendations, where appropriate, to automate and/or streamline to improve efficiency and reduce paper processingStay abreast of emerging trends in accounting, finance and technology to improve Humane Society of North Texas (HSNT) effectiveness in saving the lives of homeless petsQualifications and RequirementsBachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field, preferredFive (5) years of experience in an accounting environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Non-profit accounting experience preferredThorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles; familiarity with non-profit accounting preferredGeneral familiarity with computers, Windows software, and peripheralsProficiency with financial accounting systems; knowledge of Quickbooks Online a plusProficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and WordStrong interpersonal, supervisory and customer service skillsClear and concise written and verbal communication skillsAbility to adapt to changing work demands and proceduresKnowledge and support of the HSNT mission, policies, and protocolsRepresent HSNT in a professional manner in all situations with the public, volunteers, and staffPhysical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functionsThis position is regularly required to use hands to fingers, handle, talk, hear, stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel or crouchThe position holder must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds without assistanceSpecific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to focusWhile performing the duties of this job this position may be exposed to animal odors or airborne particlesThe noise level in the work environment is usually lowSitting for several hours at a time.
