Job Overview

Sterling Floor Designs is seeking an experienced, hands-on Accounting Manager to run our day-to-day accounting operation. Reporting directly to our COO, you’ll lead a three-person team while personally owning AP, AR, AIA progress billing, payroll, month-end close, and job compliance, along with support for HR, safety, and office administration. Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Accounting

●     Lead, train, and mentor a three-person accounting team, managing workload and day-to-day performance

●     Own month-end close in the ERP, including accruals and bank, credit card, and cash reconciliations

●     Manage accounts payable, including invoice entry, PO matching, subcontractor invoice review, weekly payment runs, and monthly AP review

●     Calculate sales commissions and prepare management reports

●     Support audits and maintain vendor and customer master files

Billing & Collections

●     Prepare AIA G702/G703 progress billings and reconcile requisitions against approved change orders

●     Invoice customers (including through GC billing portals), post payments, set up new customers, and manage collections

Payroll & Compliance

●     Process weekly payroll and related journal entries

●     Manage certified payroll, prevailing wage, and Section 3 reporting

●     Track lien waivers and releases, certificates of insurance, and subcontractor workers’ comp verification

●     Complete prequalification applications and maintain tax exemption certificates

●     File monthly sales tax and quarterly NYSIF, ST-810, and NYS OGS vendor reports

HR, Safety & Office Administration

●     Support HR administration, including new hire setup, timesheet corrections, interview scheduling, and incident reports

●     Track safety training and toolbox talks for field and warehouse staff

●     Coordinate office operations, including expense reporting, monthly inventory counts, front-desk coverage, and vehicle and building maintenance

Qualifications

●     Proven experience running a construction (or similarly complex) accounting function across AP, AR, payroll, and compliance

●     Strong understanding of AIA billing, retainage, and change orders

●     Experience managing and training accounting staff

●     Comfortable owning a close calendar and meeting statutory filing deadlines

●     Proficiency with RollMaster ERP (or a comparable construction/distribution ERP), UKG/CSC payroll, monday.com, and intermediate-to-advanced Excel

●     Excellent verbal and written communication skills

●     New York prevailing wage and certified payroll experience (strongly preferred)

●     Experience with GC billing portals such as Textura, SBU, or DASNY
