Accounting Manager, Single-Family Office

Chicago, IL (Downtown) | Hybrid, 1 to 2 days in office | $125K to $150K total comp

Our client is a well-established single-family office in downtown Chicago. A small in-house team works with top outside firms for legal, tax, accounting, and banking.

This is the office's hands-on accounting lead. You will work with a senior finance advisor and with the family directly. You will bring key work in-house from outside firms over time and build processes that last.

What you'll own

• Hands-on accounting as work moves in-house from outside firms
• Day-to-day point person for the outside accounting, tax, legal, and banking partners
• Building financial controls, accounting procedures, budgets, and cash-flow reports
• Treasury and bill pay, including a review and clean-up of bank accounts
• Tax compliance support: records, deadlines, and knowing when to bring in outside experts
• Books and records for trusts, partnerships, a family foundation, and other family entities
• One secure, organized home for financial records that are now spread across banks and providers
• Picking, setting up, and tailoring a new accounting system
• Writing down repeatable processes so records are complete and easy to find

What you bring

• 5+ years of hands-on accounting
• Family office experience, or public accounting work for high-net-worth families
• Working knowledge of trusts, partnerships, and foundations
• Enough tax background to track compliance and work well with outside CPAs
• You like building process where none exists yet
• Good judgment, discretion, and ease working directly with principals

• CPA
• Accounting system selection or implementation
• Exposure to 1041, 1065, 709, or 990-PF returns

• Hybrid: about 1 to 2 days a week in the downtown office
