A/P Accountant

The A/P Accountant is responsible for managing financial reporting, general ledger maintenance, and ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulatory requirements. This role provides support for month-end and year-end close processes, audit preparation, and financial analysis. The A/P Accountant will collaborate with internal departments to enhance financial reporting accuracy and process efficiency. Additionally, this role will oversee incorporating continuous improvement by implementing integrations, automations, and process efficiencies.

May oversee and provide guidance to junior accountants and accounting clerks.

Key responsibilities include preparing and analyzing financial statements to ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP, maintaining and reconciling general ledger accounts, assisting in the preparation and review of financial reports, managing month-end and year-end closing procedures, supporting budgeting and forecasting activities, coordinating and supporting external audits and tax preparation, reviewing and improving internal controls and accounting processes, overseeing fixed asset accounting, assisting in evaluating financial trends, variances, and risk management strategies, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure financial policies and procedures are followed, and implementing integrations, automations, and process efficiencies to improve financial operations.

Competencies include a strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles, high attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent time management and ability to meet deadlines, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently and collaborate with various departments.

Required skills/abilities include proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite, SAP, or Oracle, strong knowledge of financial analysis, reporting, and variance analysis, and the ability to adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.

Education and experience include a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required, CPA or progress toward CPA certification preferred, 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in the food service, retail, or manufacturing industry, and experience in public accounting is a plus.

Physical requirements include prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer, and occasional travel for audits, meetings, or training sessions.

Work environment includes office-based with occasional visits to operational sites as needed, and a fast-paced, collaborative work setting.
