Job Summary
The Accessioner I is responsible for processing and organizing laboratory specimens for clinical testing. This role involves receiving, identifying, cataloging, and triaging patient specimens such as blood, urine, and tissue samples. The Accessioner works closely with laboratory teams to ensure specimens are accurately processed and available for testing.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Receive, identify, sort, and triage specimens for clinical testing.
- Accurately process patient specimens according to laboratory procedures.
- Enter and manage clinical information in the LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) database.
- Verify specimen information and ensure accurate documentation.
- Perform internal audits of clinical charts and laboratory records.
- Ensure specimens are properly labeled, stored, and routed to the appropriate departments.
- Collaborate with various laboratory departments to support testing accuracy and timely processing.
- Maintain a high level of accuracy while meeting productivity and turnaround-time requirements.
- Follow laboratory safety, quality, and compliance procedures.
- Identify and escalate specimen discrepancies or issues as needed.
Qualifications
- 0-2 years of relevant work experience preferred.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences or a related field preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work efficiently in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
- Ability to work independently as well as effectively within a team.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
