JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The Morgan Academic Center at Penn State University is accepting applications for a Football Academic Support Assistant (ASA) to work with a diverse caseload of students, performing various duties and responsibilities to assist the Morgan Academic Center Academic Advisers.

This crucial role is designed to provide an opportunity for a post-baccalaureate individual to gain experience in the field of academic support for student‑athletes.

This position is a 9‑month commitment with an opportunity for renewal.

This position does not include graduate tuition, fees, or benefits.

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree; Master’s Degree preferred

Demonstrate strong communication, organizational, and professionalism skills. Work a maximum of (25) hours per week, scheduled during regular daytime, evening, and weekend hours.

Responsibilities include:

  • Attend all Emerging Professionals programming and monthly meetings
  • Attend weekly/bi‑weekly learning services and academic adviser meetings
  • Work one‑on‑one with an assigned caseload of student‑athletes by assessing academic needs, creating and providing instructional support for tailored academic support plans to improve academic self‑efficacy and learning outcomes.
  • Enhance learning in areas including goal setting, time management, organization, note‑taking, college reading and writing, study and test preparation, self‑advocacy, critical thinking and problem‑solving.
  • Monitor student progress and foster academic growth and development through weekly scheduled appointments with assigned students.
  • Complete session reports, attend ongoing professional development trainings, and uphold all compliance rules as well as MAC policies and procedures.
  • Additional duties may include assisting Learning Services staff with ongoing projects to enhance the overall operation of the MAC’s Learning Services unit, such as tutoring, mentoring, facilitating educational sessions, and other duties as assigned.
  • Execute consistent and effective communication with your supervisor, other MAC full‑time and part‑time staff, and students.
  • Maintain strict adherence to NCAA regulations, B1G Ten regulations, university policies, and MAC procedures, and uphold the highest standards of confidentiality and professional conduct.

Expected start date: August 3rd, 2026.

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.
