Position Summary

The Academic Dean shall report to the principal and assist in the organization, administration, and supervision of all personnel, instruction, curriculum, budget, parent relations, and public information.

Minimum Requirements

  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Texas Mid-Management, Supervisor, or Principal Certification.
  • Three (3) years campus-level administrative experience or curriculum/instruction leadership.
  • Current Certification in or ability to obtain: Advanced Education Leadership (AEL) certification, Instructional Leadership Training (ILT), or Instructional Leadership Development (ILD) and T-TESS appraiser certification.
  • Must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the candidate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five (5) years’ campus level administrative experience or curriculum/instruction leadership.

Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities

  • Monitors and assists teachers in the planning and implementation of curriculum, goals, and objectives to provide effective learning experiences for each student.
  • Observes teachers in their classrooms, evaluates performance, and provides feedback.
  • Supervises Department Coordinators and Subject Area Facilitators in the monitoring and implementation of curriculum and achievement guidelines.
  • Assists in interviewing and selecting campus instructional staff.
  • Assists in planning, coordinating, and implementing staff development programs for teachers to raise the level of instructional performance.
  • Coordinates the student assessment program and disseminates and interprets test data relating to the overall instructional program.
  • Works closely with Curriculum & Instruction staff to improve instructional delivery and assists in coordinating remedial and special programs (At-Risk, Comp. Ed., Chapter 1, Bilingual, Sp. Ed., Vocational) with the regular program.
  • Oversee the campus-wide implementation of the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) framework to ensure programmatic fidelity. This includes the design, delivery, and monitoring of evidence-based interventions that utilize data to drive student success and maintain alignment with district and state mandates.
  • Serves as the Campus MTSS Facilitator, maintaining expert-level knowledge of the district’s framework and mastery of the designated documentation platform.
  • Assists the campus principal in maintaining an accurate, up-to-date CCMR tracking system aligned with district accountability expectations.
  • Ensures data integrity by providing training on and monitoring effective use of district data platforms.
  • Directs the systematic monitoring of student records to ensure all students meet state and district graduation requirements. Collaborate with counselors to ensure accuracy of credits earned and earned performance acknowledgments are coded on transcripts. FAFSA requirement met and next year- “direct admissions” requirement met.
  • Under the direction of the principal, develops the campus master schedule to align staff resources to the campus improvement plan and ensure compliance with the district’s master scheduling timeline and process.
  • Works with counselors to ensure accuracy of credits earned and earned performance acknowledgments are coded on transcripts. FAFSA requirement met and next year- “direct admissions” requirement met.
  • Assists with the planning, coordination, and monitoring of student scheduling.
  • Assists in developing campus budgets relating to staff development, curriculum and instruction.
  • Assists in coordination of planning and implementation of instructional technology program.
  • Conducts conferences with parents, students, and teachers concerning school and student issues.
  • Assists in developing and implementing appropriate teaching methodologies in the classroom.
  • Assists with developing and monitoring the School Improvement Plan and Master schedule.
  • Analyze teacher and campus made tests for relevancy, appropriateness, and content.
  • Actively seeks to improve course offerings, instructional delivery, and proven strategies to increase student achievement.
  • Assists with the planning and implementation of programs and activities for campus parent involvement.
  • Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs using appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
  • Daily attendance at work and punctuality are essential functions of the job.
  • Foster and maintain a positive, respectful, and collaborative tone in all communications with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Compile, maintain, and organize reports, records, and other required documentation.
  • Adhere to all applicable federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, board policies, and district regulations.
  • Attend Board, administrative, staff, and public meetings as required.
  • Follow established campus and district routines to ensure compliance and consistency in operations.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Assist the principal with supervising and evaluating the performance of teachers, academic specialists, and support staff.

Working Conditions

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals.

Posture: Frequent walking, Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.

Motion: Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse. Occasional reaching. Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).

Environment: Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise.
