Academic Consultant

Position Summary And Essential Duties

This position involves conducting individual and group tutoring to students in the Math Lab and assisting students in improving academic achievement by:

• Identifying deficiencies and helping them overcome them.
• Assisting students with instructor-assigned homework problems to reinforce understanding.
• Guiding students in formulating ideas for becoming a stronger, more independent mathematics learner.
• Participating in staff and professional development activities.

Qualifications (Required And Preferred)

Minimum educational and work requirements (minimum qualifications): High School Diploma or High School equivalency and completed College Algebra and/or Statistics with a grade of B or higher. Preferred: Associate's Degree. Six (6) months directly related teaching/tutoring experience.

Job Duties And Responsibilities

The incumbent will:

• Provide educational supplementation in mathematics including assistance with online learning platforms
• Support students to develop and meet academic goals.
• Provide tutoring that produces educational improvements.
• Evaluate students to measure skill progression and determine improvement areas.
• Attend all directed meetings, seminars, workshops, staff development trainings, etc.; overnight travel occasionally required.
• Report to work regularly and on time.
• Perform miscellaneous job related duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of a variety of computer software applications.

Abilities:

• Ability to determine priorities, be self-directed and work with minimal supervision.

Physical Effort: May be required to sit or stand for long periods of time. May sit at a computer terminal for extended periods of time. Must be able to facilitate data entry and keyboard manipulation.

Working Conditions: Work is normally performed in an office/computer lab setting.

Work Schedule: Will vary based upon events. As determined by the program manager. This is an on-site position. Essential duties of the role must be performed in-person, during prescribed work hours.

Hours Required Per Week: Varies, up to 19.5 hours per week.

Benefits

Not a Benefits Eligible Position. Payroll: Employees are paid by direct deposit through the last working day of the month. Actual deposits are paid on the last working business day of the month. All benefit deductions are taken at that time.
