Position Overview

Salary range: $450,000-$600,000. This position includes membership in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan.

Position Description

The Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine, University of California, Davis is recruiting an Acute Pain Anesthesiology Assistant/Associate or Full Professor for the Clinical X or Health Sciences Clinical Professor Series. The successful candidate will manage acute perioperative pain across a broad range of surgical services at UC Davis Medical Center, focusing on procedure‑specific multimodal analgesia.

Responsibilities include participation in the Acute Pain Service call schedule, development of individualized pain plans, performance of regional anesthesia techniques such as ultrasound‑guided peripheral nerve blocks and neuraxial procedures, and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to optimize recovery, reduce opioid use, and improve patient outcomes. The role also entails clinical education of medical students, residents, and fellows, and service activities commensurate with academic rank. Faculty may serve as attending faculty in operating room and intensive care settings, including solo assignments.

In addition to clinical care, teaching, and service, Health Sciences Clinical Professor faculty engage in scholarly or creative activities that derive from and support their primary responsibilities. Clinical X series faculty should have involvement in an extramurally funded research program and a publication list.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications:

  • MD/DO, graduation from an ACGME-approved residency program, experience in acute perioperative pain management and regional anesthesia or completion of an ACGME-accredited Pain Medicine fellowship.
  • ABA board certification or eligibility.
  • Experience teaching medical students and/or residents and fellows.

Additional qualifications:

  • California Medical License by date of hire.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment.
