A-Shift Patient Care Assistant (PCA) - Surgical Orthopedics
Join a dedicated healthcare team in the heart of the Midwest region, providing compassionate and essential care to patients in a surgical orthopedics setting. As a Patient Care Assistant (PCA), you will work under the guidance of licensed nurses to deliver direct patient care that supports recovery and comfort.
Under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN), licensed practical nurse (LPN), or shift manager, the PCA performs vital patient care tasks to ensure safety and well-being.
- Adhere to established safety protocols including infection control, safe patient handling, and timely communication of patient condition changes.
- Provide basic care such as monitoring vital signs, glucometer checks, assisting with toileting, feeding, bathing, and mobility activities.
- Collaborate closely with nursing staff to meet patient needs promptly and enhance their overall experience.
- Accurately document all care activities to support clinical decision-making by the healthcare team.
- Effectively communicate relevant patient information to improve outcomes and quality of care.
High school diploma or GED preferred.
One year of related experience is preferred but not required.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) credential preferred; if uncertified or with less than one year experience, completion of a PCA training academy is required.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment (training provided).
This role requires considerable mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 pounds, standing, walking, and various movements such as bending, reaching, and twisting.
Frequent exposure to infectious and communicable diseases through blood and bodily fluids is expected. Occasional encounters with hostile individuals may occur.
