About the Unit

The 5 South Observation Unit supports both the Emergency Department and telemetry units by observing low‑acuity patients for a slightly extended period to determine whether they require admission to a telemetry unit. The unit operates in a fast‑paced, exciting environment with favorable nurse‑to‑patient ratios, making it ideal for nurses with backgrounds in telemetry, ED, ICU/CCU, intermediate care, or ambulatory care.

Responsibilities

  • Observe low‑acuity patients for a short duration to assess the need for telemetry admission.
  • Provide team‑based, patient‑centered care within a fast‑paced environment.
  • Collate patient data, monitor vitals, and promptly communicate findings to oncology or telemetry teams.

Requirements

  • Active Kentucky RN license.
  • BCLS certification required.
  • ACLS certification required.
  • NIH certification preferred.
  • Phlebotomy experience or willingness to be trained.
