Special Education Paraprofessional -DCD
Location: Rice Lake Elementary Start Date: August 31, 2026 Hours: 4 hours/day - 8:55-12:55
The Special Education Paraprofessional provides direct support to students with disabilities under the supervision of a licensed special education teacher. This position assists in implementing individualized education plans, supporting student independence, and maintaining a safe and productive learning environment. Paraprofessional assignments are based on student need and may change throughout the school year; staff may be reassigned to a different student, classroom, building, or program as determined by district administration.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Supervision of students indoors and/or outdoors, including during transitions, lunch, recess, and community-based activities.
- Reinforcing academic skills with individual students or small groups under the direct supervision of a licensed teacher.
- Assisting students with activities of daily living (ADLs), including eating/feeding, transferring and mobility, toileting/diapering, dressing, and hygiene.
- Facilitating behavioral redirection and intervention in alignment with student behavior intervention plans and district protocols, including implementation of de-escalation strategies.
- Assisting with the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs), including collecting and recording data on student goals and objectives.
- Collaborating and communicating with the assigned case manager, classroom teachers, and related service providers including Physical Therapists (PT), Occupational Therapists (OT), Speech-Language Pathologists (SLP), School Nurses, and others.
- Completing Third Party Billing documentation as required and trained.
- Participating in required professional development, training, and meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma required.
- Demonstrated aptitude and competence for assigned responsibilities.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
- Must be highly qualified: 1. Have at least two years of college credits (usually 60 credits if earned in Minnesota) through an accredited institution of higher education; or 2. Hold an associate's degree or higher; or 3. Have a passing score on an approved, formal assessment (ParaPro or Paraeducator Assessment)
Wages: Ranging $21.07 - $22.63 per hour, dependent on experience
