The Arden campus offers a multitude of career opportunities and is in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina.The Manufacturing, Automation, and Controls Technician supports thermal assembly lines and other production areas, focusing on improving quality, process flow, and automation. This role bridges engineering resources and the production floor, implementing safety, quality, and process improvements.Key responsibilities:Serve as a liaison between engineering and production, assisting with the implementation of safety, quality, and process improvementsCoordinate with manufacturing managers, engineers, vendors, and customers to ensure satisfaction and effective communicationFacilitate complex department projects, including planning, scheduling, training, implementation, and documentation of solutionsTroubleshoot electrical and controls issues on assembly lines and automation equipmentAssist in the design, development, and programming of PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), HMIs (Human-Machine Interfaces), and SCADA systems under engineering guidance.Support commissioning, debugging, and troubleshooting of automation equipment and control systems.Work with sensors, actuators, motors, and vision systems for process automationAssist with installation and upgrades of production equipment, collaborating with equipment suppliers and contractorsMaintain and update electrical schematics, control panel layouts, and wiring diagrams using CAD softwareEnsure compliance with safety standards, industry regulations, and company policiesDocument system configurations, troubleshooting guides, and training materialsProvide technical support for equipment maintenance and modificationsParticipate in continuous improvement initiatives and learn new automation technologiesAssist with preventative maintenance and machine repairs as neededSupport pre-production and PPAP assembly builds, procurement, and installation of assembly lines and equipmentRecommend and implement improvements to manufacturing processes and toolingInspect machined parts using indicators, micrometers, calipers, and related devices for accuracyAdhere to all health, safety, and environmental policies and proceduresPerform other duties as requested or assignedWhat we're looking for:Associate engineering degree from an accredited technical program is requiredCourses or vocational training in electronics, controls, or engineering are a plus3+ years of experience on a manufacturing floor working with technical issues and material flow preferredBasic knowledge of PLC programming (Siemens, Allen-Bradley), HMI/SCADA development, and industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profinet, etc.)Familiarity with electrical circuits, control panel design, and troubleshooting toolsExperience with vision systems (Cognex, Keyence), robotics (FANUC, ABB, KUKA), and mechatronic systems is preferredAbility to read and interpret complex blueprints, electrical schematics, and engineering drawingsProficiency with computers and common software (Windows, MS Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams)Strong problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skillsWillingness to learn and grow in automation and controlsPhysical and Environmental Requirements:Standing, walking, talking, hearing, and using hands/fingers to handle or feel may be requiredMay need to lift up to 50 pounds occasionallyMay be exposed to moderate heat, light dust, fumes, and occasional adverse weather conditionsAdequate hearing protection required for noise levels above 85 decibelsBehavioral Competencies:Customer Focus: Dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers; establishes and maintains effective relationships with customers and gains their trust and respect.Action Oriented: Enjoys working hard; is action oriented and full of energy for the things he/she sees as challenging.Functional/Technical Skills: Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills to do the job at a high level of accomplishment.Informing: Provides individuals information so that they can make accurate decisions; is timely with information.Listening: Practices attentive and active listening; has the patience to hear people out; can accurately restate the options of others even when he/she disagrees.Learning on the Fly: Learns quickly when facing new problems; open to change; experiments and will try anything to find solutions; enjoys the challenge of unfamiliar tasks.What we believe:Inclusion: Respecting IndividualsIntegrity: Honoring truthExcellence: Focusing on resultsResponsibility: Our commitmentCollaboration: Building trustSafety:This position will adhere to the BorgWarner Environmental Health and Safety Program by following all safety rules, procedures, practices, training, and safe use of equipment; this includes use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
