The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences seeks graduate students as Teaching Associate applicants. Teaching Associates typically provide classroom instruction and may assist with laboratory courses.
Anticipated Appointment Dates
- Fall 2026: August 19, 2026 – December 22, 2026
- Spring 2027: January 15, 2027 – May 26, 2027
Hours/Units per Week
- Up to 20 hours per week
- 1 unit = 2.66 hours per week (40 hrs / 15 units)
- Typical lab range: 1.3‑5.2 units
- Typical lecture range: 3‑6 units
- No more than 7.5 units
Job Duties
- Communicate lab curriculum and expectations to students (instructor of record)
- Prepare course materials and administer examinations
- Set up and clean up laboratory activities
- Maintain office hours and provide extra assistance to students
- Grade student work and determine course grades
- Attend weekly organizational meetings
- Assist faculty with field experiences, supervision, simulation exercises, and research projects as needed
Qualifications
- Enrollment in Fresno State Master’s Program in Earth and Environmental Sciences with a 3.0 GPA or better
- Enrollment in at least 6 units for the semester or two courses toward the degree
- Demonstrated satisfactory progress toward the degree
- Ability to relate well with others and potential to learn instruction and evaluation skills
- Commitment to working effectively with diverse students, faculty, and staff
- Completion of a bachelor’s degree in geology, environmental science, or related field (or equivalent coursework)
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Evidence of satisfactory achievement in previous academic work, especially in the subject matter to be covered
