Purpose Statement
The Springfield Public School District seeks a Head Coach to design, implement, and supervise the Boys Tennis program, ensuring compliance with rules, providing role modeling, and acting as liaison for the school and community.
Essential Functions
- Analyzes opposition strategies to develop game plans.
- Assesses student athletes, provides feedback and determines team roles.
- Attends meetings, workshops, and conferences to share and receive relevant information.
- Assists with supporting activities such as parent orientations, recognition events, and banquets.
- Develops team and individual practice regimes (strength, speed, agility, nutrition, injury prevention).
- Creates game strategies and plans to prepare the team.
- Evaluates facilities for hazards and recommends modifications to reduce injury risk.
- Identifies program needs and recommends expenditures for equipment, supplies, and activities.
- Manages program funding in compliance with district policies.
- Schedules practice sessions and related events to ensure efficient operations.
- Instructs students to promote athletic skill growth, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
- Maintains records (statistics, insurance, permission forms, emergency information, schedules, inventories) to meet required reporting.
- Monitors athlete academic eligibility and provides intervention when needed.
- Oversees student managers and volunteers, giving direction and monitoring activities.
- Acts as liaison at district functions such as AIA meetings and tournaments.
- Supervises athletes during competition, travel, meetings, and practices to maintain safety.
- Supports student recruitment for college opportunities.
Other Functions
Performs other duties as assigned to ensure effective program operation.
Job Requirements
Knowledge: Basic math, technical writing, public relations, equipment usage, injury prevention, laws, regulations, eligibility guidelines, safety procedures.
Skills: Adapt to changing priorities, administer first aid, apply regulations, coordinate with schools and agencies, communicate concepts, oversee financial transactions.
Abilities: Schedule numerous activities, analyze data, use equipment, solve problems, manage diverse groups, maintain confidentiality, meet deadlines, model sportsmanship, motivate athletes, enforce discipline, travel to events, work evenings/weekends.
Responsibility
Work under limited supervision, use standardized practices, and collaborate with other units to impact the organization’s services.
Experience
Job‑related experience with increasing responsibility.
Education
Minimum of sixty college credit hours.
Background Clearance
Satisfactory clearance required.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, fine finger dexterity; 10% sitting, 45% walking, 45% standing; exposure to temperature extremes and injury risk.
