RMS Manual MachinistThe primary function of an RMS Manual Machinist is to perform a variety of machining operations—including turning, milling, drilling, and threading—on rotating equipment components such as pumps, turbines, and compressors to ensure compliance with specifications and quality requirements. The Manual Machinist will set up and operate conventional machining equipment, including lathes and milling machines, to produce, modify, and repair mechanical components. This role requires the ability to read and interpret blueprints, use precision measuring instruments, and maintain strict tolerances while supporting overall shop productivity and quality objectives.Skills RequiredOrganizational - Experience RequiredExcellent attention to detailsExceptional ability to manage competing prioritiesInterpersonal - Experience RequiredExcellent interpersonal and customer service skills.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Ability to work within a team or independentlyAbility to work and interact professionally and respectfully with coworkersEfficiency - Experience RequiredAbility to manage other projects and responsibilities that may be added at the company's discretionExceptional ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time and resources effectivelyExcellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.Primary Role ResponsibilitiesOperate manual machining equipment such as lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and grinders to produce or repair precision partsInterpret and work from blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions to determine machining requirementsSet up machines by selecting proper tooling, fixtures, and materials for each jobMeasure and verify dimensions of finished parts using precision instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauges, etc.) to ensure tolerances are metPerform machining operations including turning, boring, threading, facing, drilling, and milling.Maintain tight tolerances and ensure high-quality workmanship on all componentsInspect incoming and completed parts for defects, wear, and compliance with specificationsPerform routine maintenance and cleaning of machines and equipment to ensure safe operationTroubleshoot machining issues and make adjustments to improve accuracy and efficiencyFollow all safety procedures, policies, and PPE requirementsDocument work performed, measurements, and any deviations from specificationsCollaborate with supervisors, engineers, and other shop personnel to resolve technical or production issuesAssist with disassembly, repair, and reassembly of mechanical components when requiredMaintain an organized and clean work area in accordance with shop standardsGeneral: The above list of activities is not all-inclusive but a general representation of the requirements of the RMS Manual Machinist.
This above list is subject to change based on the needs of the company.Education: High School Diploma / GED from an accredited school or institution.Knowledge and/or Skill Requirements:OMEGA experienceProficient in running horizontal lathes, milling machines, VTL, and Bullard.Capable of reading drawings and proper use of calibrated measuring tools.Can hold tolerances of .0005".Basic machining knowledge and practices required.While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be required to stand and walk for significant portions of the shift.Ability and willingness to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs., walk, climb, reach, kneel, crawl, and balance.Must be able to use hands for assembly and tool.Valid driver's licensePrevious Experience: Minimum of five to ten years of experience as a Manual Machinist is requiredAdditional Requirements:The position may be based in RMS's Mepco - Houston, TX facility.This is a full-time position, with a minimum expectation of 40 hours per week, averaging 45 hours per week. Additional hours, including evenings or weekends, may be required based on project needs.This position can be required to participate in the company random or customer specific drug and alcohol screening and background check.Must possess a valid driver's licenseAbility to pass pre-employment drug, alcohol test, and background check.Ability to act professionally under stressful situations.Able to understand, read, write and speak English.Ability and willingness to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs. (with assistance), walk, climb, reach, kneel, crawl, and balance.Must be able to use hands for assembling and tool usageWhile performing the duties of this position the employee will be required to stand, sit, bend, and walk for significant portions of the shiftMust not have allergies or issues related to handling metals, including aluminum, copper, bronze, and steel.Authorized to work in the United StatesRMS Inc.
