Client is one of the fastest-growing express car wash brands in the country. With 250+ locations and an aggressive expansion trajectory, client is building the technology infrastructure to match client’s ambitions — and client is looking for the right IT leader to help client get there. This is a rare opportunity to shape the tech stack of a high-growth consumer brand from the inside.
About the Role
As Director of IT for POS and Operations Systems, candidates will own the full lifecycle of two mission-critical platforms: client’s next-generation Point of Sale system and client’s Tunnel Controller System. Candidates will lead both an internal engineering team and a 3rd party development partner, reporting directly to the CIO. This is a builder role — candidates will be creating systems, processes, and teams that will power Client operations for years to come.
Responsibilities
Program Leadership and Strategy
- Own the full program lifecycle for POS and TCS — from discovery and architecture through deployment and postlaunch optimization.
- Define and maintain the technology roadmap, program milestones, and success metrics in alignment with Client’s growth strategy.
- Establish governance frameworks, change management protocols, and phased rollout sequencing across all locations.
- Serve as the primary technology liaison to the CIO and senior leadership, delivering clear executive-ready updates on program health, risks, and decisions.
Team and Vendor Leadership
- Build, lead, and mentor Client’s internal engineering team — defining team structure as the organization scales.
- Manage a 3rd party development partner with rigor — setting SLAs, reviewing deliverables, and driving accountability to timelines and quality standards.
- Align internal and external teams on shared architecture standards, sprint cadences, and integration protocols.
- Drive a high-performance culture: rapid iteration, clear ownership, and relentless focus on uptime and reliability.
Systems Development and Engineering
- Oversee architecture, development, and QA of the POS platform — including payment processing, membership/loyalty integrations, and real-time reporting.
- Drive engineering of the Tunnel Controller System, including hardware-software integration, conveyor logic, sensor management, and wash sequencing.
- Ensure systems are purpose-built for reliability and resilience across a high-volume, distributed fleet of car wash locations.
- Define API standards and integration patterns for communication between POS, TCS, and Client’s back office and analytics systems.
Enterprise Rollout Across 250+ Locations
- Design and execute a phased deployment strategy across Client’s full location footprint, minimizing operational disruption at each site.
- Develop site readiness checklists, staff training programs, and onsite support protocols for installation crews.
- Establish rollback and contingency procedures for each deployment wave.
- Partner closely with Client’s operations, facilities, and field teams to ensure seamless go-lives.
Security, Compliance and Ongoing Support
- Ensure POS systems comply with PCIDSS, EMV, and all relevant data privacy regulations.
- Define cybersecurity standards for edge devices, site-level networking, and remote system access.
- Establish monitoring, alerting, and uptime SLA targets across the entire technology fleet.
Qualifications
- 8 plus years of IT leadership, including managing multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Demonstrated success leading large-scale technology rollouts across distributed, multi-site operations.
- Prior experience with POS platforms and payment processing ecosystems.
- Proven track record managing and holding accountable 3rd party development vendors.
- Strong grasp of hardware-software integration, edge computing, and distributed systems.
- Exceptional communicator — comfortable from the tunnel floor to the boardroom.
Required Skills
- Experience with tunnel controller systems, industrial automation, or OT/ICS environments.
- Background in retail, hospitality, or high-throughput service operations.
- Familiarity with PLC programming, conveyor control logic, or sensor integration.
- Experience with IoT fleet management and remote diagnostics at scale.
- PMP or equivalent program management certification.
- Experience in multi-unit consumer brand or franchise environment.
Equal Opportunity Statement
Client is committed to diversity and inclusivity in the workplace.
