Field Service Technician IThe Field Service Technician I is responsible for performing comprehensive maintenance services on stormwater facilities and devices, and vegetation management services across a wide range of customer sites. The position requires hands-on fieldwork, attention to safety, and the ability to operate effectively in diverse outdoor environments.The Field Service Technician I reports to the Operations Manager and has a non-exempt FLSA status.Required Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalentAbility to travel 30% by vehicle, with overnight travel throughout territoryWillingness to work in a team environmentClear vision, with or without corrective lenses, including close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focusProficient in using various forms of technology to complete tasks effectively and efficientlyPreferred Qualifications:Experience of previous work-related skills, knowledge, or experienceA valid driver's license, good driving record, and the ability to drive company vehicles (DOT commercial motor vehicles)Ability to obtain and maintain a DOT medical cardValid state required herbicide licenseAbility to acquire a TWIC card within 120 days of hirePhysical Requirements:Ability to sit, kneel, bend, stand, or walk for 8-11 hours a dayRoutinely lift, push, pull, or move equipment of 50 pounds or moreWithstand exposure to various weather conditions while completing work assignmentsWork around water and walk, stand, and move through diverse types of terrainWork within confined spacesBe in close proximity to wildlife such as snakes, stinging insects, spiders, and other speciesWear personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessaryDuties and Responsibilities:Demonstrate our five core values (Safety, Others, Integrity, Initiative, and Passion)Prepare herbicides or materials for work applicationCommunicate with customers about the scope of work, timelines, and updatesVisually inspect all aspects of stormwater conveyance systems and document any problems found that affect functionality of the systemsDispose of trash or waste materials properly in and around stormwater conveyance systemsUse a variety of equipment for chemical applications to manage unwanted vegetationIdentify designated areas for treatment to determine appropriate course of actionApply knowledge of research findings to address environmental problemsVerify that hazardous chemicals are handled, stored, and disposed of according to IAW regulationsKeep record of usage and disposal of hazardous chemicalsGain knowledge on immediate response expected for chemical spills and neutralize, when necessary, which includes application of bleach, setup of sock perimeter, and application of Oil-Dry as is dictated by the label and trainingDispose of trash or waste materials properly by following the instructions on the label under the Storage and Disposal section (unless preapproved to leave waste onsite)Use technology to complete a tailgate brief and app reports throughout the day as necessarySafely operate power equipment such as slope mowers, tractors, UTVs, marsh masters, and zero turn mowersSafely operate handheld power equipment such as string trimmers, leaf blowers, chainsaws, hedge or brush trimmers, and sawsSafely use hand tools such as shovels, rakes, or axesMaintain and safely operate spray equipment (ATV, UTV, Roxor, etc.)Load and unload containers of materials, manually or using conveyors, hand-trucks, forklifts, or transfer augers per safety trainingLift, push, and pull hoses or equipment into place for applicationDrive trucks or other vehicles to or at work sites, with or without trailers to haul supplies and toolsIdentify and report any hazardous conditions or behaviors and defective equipmentAdjust, repair and service machinery and notify supervisors when machinery malfunctionsManipulate controls to set, activate, and adjust mechanisms on machinery on spray application equipmentDirect vehicle traffic including flagging motorists and setting out signs and conesPerform preventative, routine maintenance on vehicles, heavy equipment, and spray equipmentClean or service machinery to ensure operating efficiencyComply with all applicable traffic laws and regulations while operating a vehicleAdhere to safety procedures including conforming to all OSHA standards and properly using personal protective equipment (PPE)Develop skills and knowledge to obtain core herbicide applicator licensesDevelop skills and knowledge on the proper application of growth regulatorsAdhere to company policies and proceduresConfer with supervisors to make operational decisionsParticipate in company meetings, trainings and state licensure programsPrioritize building strong relationships by effectively communicating with our customers, their needs, and expectations, to deliver exceptional customer service and a positive experiencePerform other duties as assignedOpterra Solutions, Inc. is an equal opportunity employer.
