Quality Control Technician (electrical)

Position Summary

We are seeking a Quality Control (QC) Technician to perform quality assurance and quality control activities on a large-scale industrial electrical construction project. Working under the direction of the Project Quality Manager, the QC Technician verifies that all electrical installations conform to contract documents, approved drawings, manufacturer requirements, applicable codes, and owner specifications. This is a hands-on, field-based role focused on inspection, testing verification, and quality documentation. Safety is integral to the position, with particular attention to OSHA 30 practices and NFPA 70E electrical safety and arc-flash requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Execute the project Quality Control Plan (QCP) in the field, including carrying out inspection and test plans (ITPs), hold and witness points, and the associated documentation.

Perform and document inspections of electrical installations including underground and above-ground conduit and raceway, cable tray, wire and cable pulls, terminations and splices, grounding and bonding, medium- and low-voltage switchgear, motor control centers, transformers, panelboards, instrumentation, and lighting systems.

Verify installations against approved for-construction drawings, specifications, submittals, and manufacturer instructions, and identify nonconformances before they become rework.

Witness and document field testing and commissioning support activities such as continuity, insulation resistance (megger), high-potential testing, torque verification, phasing, and functional checkout, and confirm results are recorded on the correct test forms.

Generate and track nonconformance reports (NCRs), deficiency logs, and punch lists, and follow up with field crews to confirm corrective actions are completed.

Maintain complete and auditable quality records, including inspection reports, test data, material certifications, receiving inspection documentation, and turnover package / redline support for owner handover.

Participate in inspections with the owner, third-party inspectors, and the authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) as directed by the Project Quality Manager.

Conduct receiving inspections of delivered electrical materials and equipment to confirm they match approved submittals and are free of damage or defects.

Support a strong safety culture, ensuring QC activities are performed in accordance with OSHA 30 requirements and NFPA 70E electrical safe work practices, including proper PPE, arc-flash boundaries, and energized-work controls.

Required Qualifications

Five or more years of dedicated QA/QC experience in industrial, power, or heavy-commercial construction.

Working knowledge of electrical construction methods and the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70 / NEC), with the ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, schematics, and specifications.

OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification.

NFPA 70E electrical safety training and a thorough understanding of arc-flash and energized-work safety practices.

Experience executing inspection and test plans, documenting NCRs, and compiling quality records.

Strong written documentation skills and proficiency with quality tracking tools and standard office software.

Ability to work on an active industrial construction site, including walking the site, climbing ladders, accessing elevated and confined areas, and wearing required PPE.

Preferred Qualifications

Electrical field background such as a journeyman electrician or equivalent trade experience.

Familiarity with medium- and high-voltage systems and associated acceptance testing (e.g., NETA testing familiarity).

Recognized quality credentials such as ASQ CQIA/CQT or owner/utility-specific QC certifications.

Experience supporting commissioning and turnover on projects with formal owner QA/QC requirements.

Physical and Work Environment

This is a field-based role on an active industrial construction site. The QC Technician will be exposed to typical construction conditions including noise, dust, weather, and proximity to energized electrical equipment, and must consistently follow all site safety and electrical safety protocols.
