Duration: 12 months (possibility of multiple 12 months extension)
Rate offered: $52 - $85/hr. on W2
Full Time: 40 hrs/week
Job Description:
TerraPower, LLC. is seeking to contract with a highly capable and motivated mechanical analysis engineer. In this role, you will develop analysis methodologies using finite element methods and hand calculations to predict mechanical behavior of reactor core components and develop software to automate analyses. Other responsibilities include mechanical analysis of the reactor core and verification and validation of methods and software.
Tasks
• Analyze reactor core and core component mechanical behavior using FEA (Abaqus preferred)
• Develop analysis methods for analyzing mechanical behavior of sodium fast reactor core
• Develop software using Python to automate the generation of finite element models for conducting analysis of the reactor core and core components
• Support software V&V by developing software documentation including requirements and software test reports
• Support testing for validation of mechanical codes and methods. This includes developing test requirements, acceptance testing criteria, performing pre-test predictions, post-processing test data, and working closely with test engineers to ensure the test design satisfies validation needs
Key Qualifications and Skills
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering (or equivalent) with 3+ years working experience
• Strong finite element analysis (FEA) experience, including experience with nonlinear analysis Abaqus preferred
• Expert level understanding of finite element methods and underlying theory
• Expert level understanding of fundamental solid mechanics (statics, dynamics, strength of materials)
• Coding skills (Python preferred)
• Strong technical writing skills
• Ability to consistently deliver to an aggressive schedule
• Ability to seek out tasks and produce value aligned with team goals without waiting for next assignment
• Willingness to openly give and receive professional criticism through reviews
• Strong communication skills desired
• The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect, and a desire to foster teamwork
• Actual position starting level and title will be determined based on assessment of qualifications.
