Psychiatrist and Medical Director
A well-established behavioral health facility in Atlanta, Georgia, is seeking a Psychiatrist for a locum tenens to permanent position. This role involves a 50/50 split between direct clinical care and medical leadership, overseeing medical operations and providing clinical supervision. The psychiatrist will provide crisis intervention and stabilization services for adults across various levels of care.
Practice Info
- Center provides crisis intervention and stabilization services for adults across three levels of care.
- Crisis Services Center receives walk-ins, emergency room transfers, and involuntary referrals for psychiatric evaluation.
- Temporary Observation Unit monitors individuals requiring further observation for 12 to 24 hours.
- Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) serves individuals needing longer stabilization or substance withdrawal management, typically 5 to 7 days, with crisis counseling, medication management, and discharge planning support.
- Patient population: Adults 18+ only.
Responsibilities
- Manage an active caseload of approximately 6 patients on the CSU.
- Perform comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, crisis intervention, medication management, withdrawal management, and general medical care for adults 18+.
- Serve as the delegated physician of record for APRNs, providing supervision and consultation.
- Provide clinical teaching and mentorship for medical students and psychiatry residents.
- Provide medical supervision of MDs, PAs, and APRNs across units.
- Develop training to maintain clinical excellence and best practices.
- Serve as the bridge between medical staff and executive leadership.
Compensation
- Compensation: ~$340,000 annually.
- Admin/Clinical split: 50/50.

Shift & Schedule
- Monday through Friday, 8:15 AM to 5:00 PM.
- Locums duration: 2 to 3 months preferred before transitioning to permanent placement.
Requirements
- Board Certification in Psychiatry preferred.
- Active Georgia medical license and DEA registration with prescriptive authority for controlled substances.
- Minimum 3 years of post-graduate psychiatric experience, including supervisory or leadership experience.
