System Director Emergency Services

The client seeks a System Director, Emergency Services to provide enterprise-wide leadership for emergency department nursing practice. This role will support operations across multiple emergency departments within the client’s network, ensuring consistency, reliability, and clinical excellence. The System Director will report to the CNO and will lead direct reports with enterprise-wide responsibilities, serving as the subject matter expert for ED nursing. Key duties include driving strategic and operational initiatives to improve throughput, reduce LWBS, enhance quality and safety, strengthen patient experience, and increase nurse engagement through measurable outcomes; developing and optimizing system dashboards, operational metrics, and enterprise tools such as surge planning and capacity management; and partnering with regional CNOs, ED physician leadership, and site nurse managers to align local performance improvement efforts with system goals while providing coaching, guidance, and operational support. The role will foster a professional practice environment grounded in evidence-based care, shared governance, and nursing research, including collaboration on education, competency development, and system-wide clinical programs. It is expected to represent ED nursing at the executive level, contributing to strategic planning, system committees, and broader thought leadership through research, publications, and conference presentations, with a strong focus on staffing, accountability, employee development, productivity metrics, employee engagement, and operational efficiencies. Required qualifications include an RN and a Master’s degree, along with prior Director-level experience.
