We are seeking a hands-on, applied AI Engineer for a contract focused on supporting the ongoing operation, modernization, and extension of AI-enabled applications. The successful candidate will work within modern web frameworks to deploy and maintain services in a cloud environment, utilizing AI-assisted software development workflows.

Key Responsibilities
• Maintain, enhance, and extend existing applications and supporting services.
• Analyze requirements and participate in project planning sessions to provide design recommendations for routine to moderately complex systems.
• Prepare source code, debug and correct errors, and maintain software integrity.
• Configure, deploy, and monitor applications and supporting services in cloud environments.
• Design and develop routine to moderately complex applications, including data flows, screens, forms, and reports.
• Provide technical consultation on issues regarding infrastructure usage and application systems integration.
• Document system processes, workflows, and technical procedures.
• Participate in the evaluation of new and related technologies.

Requirements
• Programming & Frameworks: Proficiency in Python and related modern web frameworks (e.g., FastAPI).
• Cloud Computing: Strong knowledge of cloud computing principles and services (experience with Microsoft Azure preferred).
• Source Control: Experience with Git-based source control and pull-request-based collaboration workflows.
• AI Development: Knowledge of modern AI-assisted software development workflows, directing tools, validating output, and shipping reliable production code. Ability to compare and select AI models (e.g., A/B testing).
• Systems Engineering: Strong knowledge of systems analysis, design, development, and programming principles.
• Security & Compliance: Knowledge of secure development practices and appropriate handling of confidential or regulated data, including security considerations specific to AI applications.
• Soft Skills: Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; ability to take a user request from intake through deployment to production.

Required / Desired Skills
• Python development in a Web environment that handles application logic and web APIs Required - 3 Years
• Experience building applications powered by large language models (LLMs) such as Google Gemini, Anthropic Claud, or OpenAI GPT Required - 2 Years
• Professional experience related to comparing & selecting AI models (for example, A/B testing two models on a task) Required - 2 Years
• Experience deploying applications and supporting services in cloud environments Required - 2 Years
• Deployed and maintained services on Microsoft Azure (App Service, Storage, Key Vault and related services) Required - 2 Years
• Experience using Git-based source control and pull-request workflows Required - 2 Years
• Previous experience working directly with a state government agency in AI development Required - 2 Years
• EXCEPTIONAL COMMUNICATION skills - both oral and written are REQUIRED Required - 1 Years
