VOICE UP
SPORTS & MENTAL HEALTH IMPACT INTERNSHIP
Supporting Athlete Wellbeing Through Coaching Practice
A Voice Up Internship Program
INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW
The Voice Up Sports and Mental Health Impact Internship is an applied learning experience focused on the intersection of athletics, coaching, and athlete mental wellbeing.
This internship invites students to study, observe, and apply principles from sports psychology, athlete development, and mental health awareness in athletic environments.
Athletes today face increasing pressures related to performance expectations, academic demands, identity formation, injury recovery, and social media visibility. Coaches play a critical role not only in performance development but also in shaping the mental and emotional wellbeing of athletes.
Using evidence-based frameworks from sports psychology, athlete wellbeing research, and coaching science, this internship trains participants to recognize how coaching environments influence mental health outcomes and how coaches can support resilience, psychological safety, and healthy identity development in athletes.
Rather than focusing only on winning or performance metrics, this internship centers the role of coaches as leaders of whole-person athlete development, where mental health, wellbeing, and purpose-driven participation are foundational.
