Enologist (0031-0003)
Duties:
Lead all phases of the winemaking process, including grape selection, crushing, fermentation, blending, stabilization, filtration, and packaging.
Develop and execute winemaking protocols and maintain quality standards consistent with the company’s brand and style profile.
Supervise cellar operations, ensuring efficiency, safety, and adherence to production timelines.
Conduct chemical and sensory analyses to monitor fermentation and product development.
Oversee wine inventory management and production reporting.
Collaborate with growers and viticulturists to assess grape maturity, harvest timing, and quality optimization.
Evaluate new techniques, yeasts, and technologies to improve consistency, flavor profile, and sustainability in production.
Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations regarding wine production, labeling, and storage.
Conduct daily laboratory analysis, taste panels, and quality audits.
Manage HACCP, GMP, and ISO standards where applicable.
Maintain meticulous production records and analytical data for all lots and blends.
Participate in new product development, including limited releases, experimental lots, and international blends.
Stay current with global enological innovations and implement relevant improvements.
Coordinate workflow and task prioritization during harvest and bottling seasons.
Work closely with management to plan production schedules and meet market demand.
Provide analytical data and tasting reports to executive and sales teams.
Support marketing initiatives and technical presentations when needed.
Supervise one Cellar Worker I.
Hours:
Number of hours per week: 40
Daily Work Schedule: Mon to Fri 8.30 a.m.to 5.30 p.m. (1hr lunch)
Education and Experience Requirements
Education:
Bachelor’s (or its foreign equivalent) in Enology, Viticulture, Food Science, or a closely related field. Will accept single degree or any combination of degrees, diplomas or professional credentials determined to be equivalent by a qualified evaluation service.
Experience:
2 years of experience as an Enologist. Experience to include, 2 years of experience in:
Operating Foss analysis equipment
Viticulture, including vineyard handling and management
Specialized maintenance of pumps and filters, including filtration systems
