Data Center Electrical Engineer

With your technical expertise, you ensure compliance with codes and standards, develop infrastructure improvements and serve as an expert in your specialty (e.g., cooling, electrical).
As a Data Center Services Electrical Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the field-level implementation and operational support of Google’s rapidly expanding data centers. You will be responsible for overseeing the design, construction, and commissioning of Electrical distribution systems, ensuring projects are delivered safely, swiftly, and with high quality. You will manage site-level electrical engineering issues, ensuring compliance with design standards and local regulations, supporting quality assurance, and providing technical guidance to vendor teams. You will be a strong communicator and collaborator who grows on construction sites and has experience with mechanical systems, ideally within mission-critical facilities, heavy industrial, oil and gas, or semiconductor industries.

Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 years of experience in mission-critical facility design and construction environments.
- Experience in design, construction, and commissioning of utility electrical distribution systems in mission-critical facility design and construction environments.
- Experience in electrical infrastructure.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree in Engineering, Business or other relevant field or a professional engineering license or a Professional Engineering (PE) license.
- Experience in estimating, electrical design, operation, and commissioning of substations, switchgear, Alternative Transients Program (ATP)/Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), emergency power systems and their control systems, power monitoring, and electrical protection.
- Experience in design, construction, and commissioning of high voltage substations, medium or low voltage electrical distribution systems, AC/DC systems, and associated power management or Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) tools.
- Experience working with data center equipment and environments (e.g., switchgear, generators, transformers, controls, security monitoring systems, fire safety systems), with a strong understanding of start up/commissioning processes.
- Experience with cross-discipline teams (e.g., structural, civil, IT/Telecom, security, mechanical, architectural).
- Experience with medium voltage systems.

Responsibilities
- Define data center system-level, product architecture, and Research and Development, while helping to develop operations and maintenance procedures for systems/processes.
- Conduct engineering analysis and research designs and methods of data center equipment and facilities.
- Ensure designs and installations meet requirements (e.g., predicted cooling, structural, operational concerns, etc.).
- Collaborate with Data Center Delivery and Engineering (DCDE) core teams to develop, implement, and manage the data center (DC) electrical designs at site starting from basis of design (BOD) to issued for construction (IFC) data center services documents for new DC projects build outs, infrastructure upgrades, and renovations.
- Oversee all site-level electrical system issues throughout the project execution phase, diagnose and resolve issues with cross-functional teams, uphold DC related electrical system design requirements and interface documents, and comply with the change control process.
