Job Description: Transmission Project Engineer
Position Overview
The Transmission Project Engineer is responsible for managing the design lifecycle of transmission generation tie lines for Wind, Solar, and Battery Energy Storage projects, as well as stand-alone transmission line initiatives. Working within the Engineering & Construction (E&C) group, this role oversees projects from the early conceptual phase through construction and final commissioning. Please note that all line design is performed by external engineering consultants under the technical direction and oversight of the Transmission Project Engineer.
Key Responsibilities
Project Strategy & Concept: Collaborate with project management and development teams to define project requirements, influence scope, and support competitive transmission proposals and greenfield developments.
Consultant & Vendor Management: Secure engineering consulting resources from approved supplier lists. This includes developing scopes of work, managing the bidding process, evaluating proposals, and overseeing contract awards through the Integrated Supply Chain group.
Stakeholder & Route Coordination: Coordinate with project stakeholders to secure necessary routing, permits, and engineering data including geotechnical and LiDAR surveys required for design and construction.
Deliverable Oversight: Ensure the successful coordination of engineering deliverables, including Issued for Bid (IFB), Issued for Procurement (IFP), Issued for Construction (IFC) packages, as-built drawings, design criteria, and technical contributions to Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
Reporting & Risk Mitigation: Represent internal and external interests by providing regular progress briefings, risk assessments, and mitigation strategies to various levels of management.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil/Structural Engineering.
Experience: A minimum of 7 years of direct, hands-on experience in the development, design, engineering, and construction of High Voltage (HV) transmission line projects.
Technical Competence: Proficiency in interpreting one-line/three-line diagrams, general arrangements, and plan-and-profile drawings.
Core Skills: Strong knowledge of transmission design, excellent project management and communication skills, a bias for action, and proven analytical problem-solving abilities.
Travel: Ability to travel within North America as required by project needs.
Preferred Qualifications
Professional Credentials: PMP certification and/or a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in a related discipline.
Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated experience with industry-standard software tools, including PLS-CADD, AutoCAD, Primavera, and Microsoft Office Suite.
