About the Role

The Company is seeking an Assistant Vice President for its Technical Underwriting Office. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the technical underwriting discipline, governance, and modernization strategy within the underwriting organization. This role is pivotal in driving the evolution of the underwriting strategy, ensuring technical excellence, consistency, and regulatory compliance across all lines. The AVP will also lead the staff underwriting function, partner with product, actuarial, and finance teams to assess portfolio performance, and set the strategic direction for underwriting training and capability building. Additionally, the role involves overseeing the development of underwriting manuals and playbooks, serving as an executive sponsor for underwriting innovation initiatives, and collaborating on enterprise-wide initiatives. Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree (advanced degree preferred) in a related field, with professional designations such as CPCU, ARM, or CIC strongly preferred. A minimum of 15 years' property and casualty commercial lines underwriting experience, including 10 years in underwriting leadership and 5 years leading other leaders, is required. The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise in commercial lines, a proven track record in leading underwriting operations, and experience in designing and implementing training programs for underwriting teams. Core competencies include strategic agility, technical underwriting expertise, operational excellence, and strong collaboration and influencing skills. The role demands a data-driven, strategic mindset, and the ability to lead through partnership across business functions.
