About the Role

The Company is seeking a Chief Health Officer (CHO) to serve as the lead health and medical authority for its school district. The CHO will be responsible for providing critical leadership in the areas of student health and wellness, overseeing a large team, and working in close collaboration with the Chief Education Officer and the Commissioner of the Department of Public Health. This role is pivotal in guiding health and wellness policy, managing health data, and ensuring student access to healthcare services. The successful candidate will be accountable for charting the vision for the Office of Student Health and Wellness, collaborating with various offices to implement health initiatives, and partnering with the Department of Public Health to integrate public health priorities into school health programming. Candidates for the CHO position must have a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree, current Illinois medical licensure, and board certification or eligibility in Pediatrics or Family Medicine. A strong background in public health, with additional education such as an MPH or MPP, is preferred. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 15 years' of experience in medicine and/or public health leadership, with at least 10 years' in a senior leadership role, and a proven track record of building and leading high-performing teams. Superior clinical credibility, the ability to articulate a vision, and experience in strategic planning and budgeting are essential. The CHO will also be expected to have a deep understanding of urban public health and school health issues, and the ability to build collaborative relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
