About the Role

The Company is seeking a Chief Development Officer (CDO) to lead the organization in a transformative phase of its fundraising strategy. The CDO will be responsible for designing and executing an ambitious fundraising vision, with a focus on expanding resources, diversifying revenue, and accelerating impact across the justice system. This role involves setting and achieving multi-year goals, particularly in the area of principal and major gifts, and requires a deep commitment to equity and systemic change. The successful candidate will work closely with the leadership team to inspire a culture of philanthropy, manage a talented development team, and engage with the Board of Trustees to maximize their role in fundraising. The CDO will also be a key external leader, tasked with narrating the organization's mission in a compelling manner and ensuring that the fundraising strategy aligns with the company's visionary programming and national leadership on justice and equity issues. Applicants for the CDO position at the company should have at least 15 years of development experience, including a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role. A proven track record in securing six and seven-figure gifts, as well as experience in a social justice environment, is highly preferred. The role requires the ability to create and communicate complex program narratives, a professional commitment to social justice, and the capacity to lead by example in fostering a sense of urgency, commitment, and sound decision-making. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in team management, be adept at working in an evolving landscape, and be dedicated to the values of social justice, equity, and inclusion.
