About the Role

The Company is seeking an Executive Director to provide visionary leadership and strategic oversight, ensuring the delivery of rigorous, impactful health journalism and the advancement of a long-term strategic vision for informing and improving public health. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving the organization's mission, maintaining editorial excellence, and fostering financial sustainability. This role involves building strong relationships with funders, partners, and the community, as well as leading a team to expand the outlet's reach and empower communities through trusted, high-quality reporting. The Executive Director will also be tasked with developing and implementing a comprehensive revenue generation strategy, managing financial planning and budgeting, and overseeing the organization's operations to ensure effective and equitable execution. Candidates for the Executive Director position at the company should have a proven track record in executive or senior directorial leadership, preferably within a healthcare, media, or journalism nonprofit. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of independent journalism's role in a healthy democracy, a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and experience in donor outreach and stewardship. Outstanding strategic planning, people management, and fiscal management skills are essential, as is the ability to champion the organization's work in the public sphere. The role requires a leader with excellent communication, collaboration, and public speaking abilities, who can effectively engage with a variety of stakeholders. A Bachelor's degree in journalism, healthcare, or nonprofit management is required, with an advanced degree being preferred.
