About the Role
The Company is seeking a Deputy University Counsel for Health Affairs to join its dynamic team. The successful candidate will be a key legal leader, managing the legal team within the Health Sciences Center and providing expert guidance on a wide range of legal, strategic, and governance issues. This role is pivotal in ensuring compliance with health law and representing the University in legal matters. The Deputy Counsel will be involved in the analysis of complex legal and regulatory issues related to the University's healthcare operations, including but not limited to, hospital operations, EMTALA compliance, medical staff self-governance, and healthcare information privacy. Additionally, the role involves overseeing legal matters related to research, particularly in the areas of basic and human subjects, and animal research, as well as advising on strategic transaction approaches for the academic health center. Applicants for the Deputy University Counsel for Health Affairs position at the company should be results-driven legal professionals with a JD from an ABA-accredited law school and at least ten years of relevant healthcare law experience. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in supporting hospitals, physicians, and other healthcare providers, with a focus on hospital operations, compliance, and healthcare-related transactions. The role requires a candidate with a proven ability to build effective relationships at all organizational levels, strong emotional and social intelligence, and the capacity to lead a team of attorneys and staff. The Deputy Counsel will also be responsible for training and coordinating legal professionals and may be called upon to perform the duties of the General Counsel in their absence.
