About the Role
The Company is in search of a Board Member for the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB). The ideal candidate will have a background as a state government preparer of financial statements or a public accountant with a focus on state and local government accounting and auditing. The GASB is dedicated to establishing and enhancing standards for state and local governmental accounting and financial reporting, with the ultimate goal of providing useful information to the public. The successful candidate will be part of a standard-setting Board that is recognized for its authority in establishing generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and is committed to the mission of guiding and educating the public in this field. Candidates for the Board Member position must have substantial employment experience in the relevant areas, and a Certified Public Accountant license is required for those with a public accounting background. While not mandatory, professional certifications or advanced degrees in business administration, public administration, or related fields are desirable. The role demands a high level of intellect, integrity, discipline, and a commitment to the public interest. Well-developed communication skills and the ability to work collegially with other Board members and staff are essential. The successful candidate will be expected to be well-versed in the current environment of state and local government reporting and to demonstrate a dedication to the GASB's mission. The initial term is five years, with the possibility of reappointment, and the role requires a significant time commitment, including regular meetings.
