About the Role

The Company is seeking a Chief Development Officer (CDO) to lead and scale its philanthropic revenue strategy. The CDO will be responsible for architecting a bold multi-year development strategy, creating and executing comprehensive revenue plans, and establishing donor stewardship systems. This transformative leadership role requires a candidate with a combination of executive-level fundraising expertise, entrepreneurial grit, and a passion for the mission. The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of progressive fundraising experience, a proven track record in driving revenue growth, and the ability to build and lead a high-performing development team. Key responsibilities include designing and building the development department, personally managing a portfolio of major gift prospects, and partnering with the CEO and Board to maximize philanthropic opportunities. Candidates for the CDO position at the company should have a Bachelor's degree (advanced degree or CFRE certification preferred) and a strong background in strategic fundraising leadership, operational discipline, and team development. While experience in veteran communities, mental health initiatives, healthcare innovation, or policy advocacy is valued, it is not required. The successful candidate will be adept at creating modern development operations, establishing a culture of excellence, and ensuring the department is aligned with the organization's growth strategy. They must be able to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial nonprofit environment and be committed to the mission of improving veteran mental health and addressing the national veteran suicide crisis. The role also involves overseeing partnerships, external engagement, and the strategic vision for fundraising events, making exceptional communication and relationship-building skills essential.
