About the Role

The Company is seeking a Chief Development Officer (CDO) to spearhead the development of a comprehensive gift and estate planning strategy. The CDO will be the primary leader in all fundraising efforts related to planned giving, including the securing of various complex gift arrangements. This role requires a deep understanding of gift planning, strategic donor engagement, and the ability to manage a high-net-worth portfolio. The successful candidate will be responsible for direct and managing the planned giving program, developing policies to ensure compliance with legal and tax regulations, and creating marketing strategies to promote the program. Additionally, the CDO will be tasked with leading a team of development professionals, providing education on gift and estate planning, and collaborating with various stakeholders to enhance fundraising operations. Candidates for the CDO position at the company should have a baccalaureate degree and at least 10 years of professional fundraising experience, with a minimum of 5 years in a management role. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in securing deferred gifts, strong leadership and management skills, and the ability to build and maintain relationships with a diverse range of constituents. Advanced writing, analytical skills, and experience with donor databases are essential. Preference will be given to candidates with advanced academic degrees, fundraising certifications, and experience in a similar role within an educational setting. The CDO will be expected to be a source of inspiration and motivation for the team, with a focus on growing the donor pipeline and ensuring the long-term success of the gift planning program.
