About the Role

The Company is seeking a Chief Health Counsel to lead all health care-related legal services and provide strategic legal counsel to senior leadership. This critical leadership role involves overseeing a team of health counsel attorneys and staff, as well as maintaining direct responsibility for the health risk management office. The successful candidate will be a trusted advisor on a wide range of complex legal and regulatory matters, including health care transactions, compliance, clinical operations, and general business issues. Collaboration with the University of California's Office of the General Counsel and participation in systemwide health initiatives are also key aspects of the position. Applicants for the Chief Health Counsel role at the company should have a J.D. from an accredited law school, with a preference for current admission to the California State Bar. The ideal candidate will have at least a decade of legal experience in health care law, particularly within academic medical centers or large integrated health systems. Deep expertise in regulatory compliance, clinical operations, and the legal framework governing academic health systems is essential. The role requires a strategic thinker with the ability to navigate complex legal issues and balance institutional priorities. Strong analytical and legal judgment, exceptional communication skills, and a commitment to integrity, collaboration, and public service are also necessary.
