Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development.
  • 5 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.
  • 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products.
  • 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 8 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
  • 3 years of experience working in an organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.

The mission of the Virtual IO team in Google Cloud is to connect our customer VMs to storage in the most efficient and fast way possible. Every VM in the cloud needs to connect to storage - from the access to its boot disk to access high speed low-latency storage. Our team makes that happen by working with our partners who are building the hardware, providing guest interfaces leveraging non-volatile memory express (NVMe) and leading technologies, and working with the unique hardware in our physical infrastructure.

In this role, you will work at the core of the storage code.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $207,000-$300,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership on projects.
  • Influence and coach a distributed team of engineers.
  • Provide core connectivity between guests running in GCE and storage - provide connectivity to both high speed ephemeral storage, and to replicated network-based storage.
  • Work closely with the teams building the storage layer, identifying performance bottlenecks and helping to land impact for our customers.
  • Work with APIs to high performance network storage across a virtualized interface, and play a role in the evolution to higher bandwidth and lower latency.
