Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct initial dental assessments and consult with dentists on patient care.
• Perform dental cleaning and apply preventive materials.
• Assess and record patient oral health and report progress or concerns to the dentist.
• Provide guidance on proper dental care practices, including brushing, flossing, and dietary recommendations.
• Assist with diagnostic tests and x-rays.
• Manage infection control by sterilizing and disinfecting instruments and equipment.
• Help patients feel comfortable before, during, and after dental treatment.
• Teach patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health (e.g., tooth brushing, flossing and nutritional counseling).
• Counsel patients about plaque control and developing individualized preventive oral health practices.
• Maintain patient dental records; routinely update the record during each visit.
• Monitor supplies and equipment; order as needed with budget considerations in mind.
• Stay current with developments in dental materials and techniques for patient benefit.

Requirements

• Associate degree or bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene from an accredited program.
• Current state license as a Dental Hygienist.
• Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a dental office.
• Excellent working knowledge of overall dentistry and dental hygiene procedures.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with other team members.
• Proficient in the use of modern dental technology and software.
• Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, to clearly explain treatment plans and oral health care strategies to patients.
• Demonstrable ability to manage time, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.
• Capability in engaging with patients of all ages, making them feel at ease during treatments.
• Prior experience with co-diagnosis, treatment, and management of periodontal disease.
• Skilled in the enrollment of restorative dental needs and effective patient education.
• A positive attitude and a commitment to contributing to a cooperative team environment.
