Radiology Technician
Job description:
HCA Solutions is currently seeking qualified candidates to serve as a PRN Radiology Technologist, at Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia.
Shift coverage for 7:00a - 17:00p (10hr shifts)
Radiology Technician Responsibilities:
a. Perform a full range of interventional angiography (invasive vascular) procedures on patients resulting in accurate diagnosis and/or optimal treatment while maintaining maximum patient safety and comfort.
b. Perform/review a baseline patient assessment, evaluate patient response to diagnostic or interventional procedures.
c. Provide assistance during interventional procedures to attending radiologists or surgeons. Provide direct assistance for invasive procedures including drainages, biopsies, radio frequency ablations, cryoablations and new interventional procedures established during the term of this task order.
d. Be responsible for radiation protection of patients and personnel in accordance with command safety guidelines.
e. Be proficient in the operation and maintenance of diagnostic and therapeutic equipment used for procedures.
f. Log arrival and departure of patients in the command’s hospital information system (MHS Genesis) and in the scanner logbooks. Send appropriate image series to the radiologist for reading via the PACS according to department protocol.
g. Evaluate patients for contrast compatibility: renal function, allergy history, contrasts contraindications.
h. Recognize and report to the radiologist any symptoms which have a direct bearing on the patient’s condition while in Interventional Radiology or CT such as adverse reaction to contrast media or IV infiltration. Recognize the need for and initiate emergency measures for critical situations such as respiratory or cardiac arrest.
i. Recognize the significance of all anatomical structures and acute pathology. Bring critical findings to the attention of the radiologist.
j. Stock and maintain an adequate level of supplies required for various interventional examinations, also cleaning, taking out linen and sharps containers to Biohazard room as needed. Participate in the radiology department’s rotation for pick up and drop off of both.
k. Perform system calibrations and quality control tasks according to manufacturer and command instructions daily. Recognize artifacts and equipment errors and notify designated Government personnel of outlying values. Perform daily checks of the crash cart and monthly checks of emergency contrast reaction kits and restroom emergency call bells.
l. Initiate repair call procedures for equipment malfunctions by notifying designated Government personnel. Report problems to the Biomedical Repair Section and record the problem condition in the trouble call logbook. Report problems to Department Qualified Medical Physicists.
m. Participate in On-Call rotation in accordance with department policy.
n. When responding to trauma procedures while on call, arrive at hospital in a timely manner to begin procedure within 60 minutes of call or in accordance with trauma center policy.
o. Perform and document transitions of care and other shift change huddles/meetings at the beginning and end of shift in accordance with MTF and Joint Commission requirements.
Requirements
Graduate from an academic program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).
Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT)
CPR certification
One year of experience within the last two years as a radiologic technologist or in the radiologic technologist specialty area.
