On-the-Job Training: Experienced Utilities staff provide valuable training that helps the Utility Maintenance Mechanic learn the systems, equipment, & processes that support Salina’s water & wastewater operations. Career Advancement: Sr. Maintenance Mechanic

Duties:
• Performs skilled & semi-skilled mechanical repairs to equipment at the Water & Wastewater Treatment Plants & related facilities, including but not limited to: automated controls, chemical feed equipment, blowers, boilers, electrical controls, filters, generators, laboratory equipment, motors, piping, pumps, & valves.
• Inspects machinery & equipment for repair & maintenance.
• Maintains & repairs equipment as needed.
• Makes equipment repairs utilizing both gas & electrical welding equipment.
• Performs minor electrical repairs.
• Reads & interprets technical manuals for repairs or installation of equipment.
• Assists in procuring estimates, parts, or proposals for new or replacement equipment.
• Assists in maintaining a parts inventory.
• Performs preventative maintenance on equipment as assigned.
• Documents & records preventative maintenance & repair records.
• Uses & maintains a variety of tools used to repair equipment.

Education:
•High school diploma or G.E.D.

Experience:
• Two (2) years of mechanical & electrical experience or education preferred.

Requirements:
• Must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license.
• Must live within 40 minutes response time.

Work Type:
• Heavy, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Equipment:
• Computer-based SCADA & asset / preventative maintenance software program, computers, confined space equipment, digital laboratory & maintenance test equipment, forklifts, hand & power tools, lock-out/tag-out equipment, overhead hoist, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), skid steers, telephone, two-way radio, trucks, UTV vehicles, vehicles, voltage meters, & welders.

Hours:
• Monday Friday.
• 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
• Responds to after-hours calls.

Starting Pay DOQ EOE:
• $25.69-26.97/hr.
• $53,430-56,098/yr.
• Additional $1.50/hour paid for hours worked after 6:00 p.m. & before 6:00 a.m.

Paid Time Off:
• 48 hours of vacation available upon hire; additional 48 hours earned during the year (96 hours in first year).
• 96 hours of sick leave during first year.
