About the job

Commodity Managers work with Engineering teams to make sure Google has the supplies and equipment to put into production the innovative products coming from our Engineering teams. As a Commodity Manager, you use your wide industry knowledge and strategic supplier relationships to optimize our total cost of ownership for our global -- and growing -- infrastructure. The scale at which Google operates means that savings on just one piece of hardware can have a huge impact on Google's bottom line.

In this role, you will be involved in the development of systems and products, understand Google’s roadmaps, and own Contract Manufacturer (CM) engagements. You will manage sourcing deliverables and negotiations (RFP, contracts, etc.) and CM relationships for your assigned program.

As a skilled negotiator and Supply or Commodity Manager, you will lead the strategy development and execution of the reverse supply chain. You should have experience managing global CMs and Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs) as a key relationship owner. Working with product development teams and engineers, you will drive suppliers to meet cost and schedule commitments.

You will lead cross-functional projects, resolve supply chain risks, and contribute to an end-to-end technical supply chain team focused on continuous improvement and operational excellence. This role requires thriving in ambiguity and establishing structure in undefined areas. Additionally, you will collaborate with technical engineering, operations, and commercial managers to oversee the reverse supply chain for advanced ML, networking, and compute machines, while leading business selection and negotiating statements of work.

This role will be based in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Behind everything our users see online is the architecture built by the Technical Infrastructure team to keep it running. From developing and maintaining our data centers to building the next-generation of Google platforms, we make Google's product portfolio possible. We're proud to be our engineers' engineers and love voiding warranties by taking things apart so we can rebuild them. We keep our networks up and running, ensuring our users have the best and fastest experience possible.

Responsibilities

  • Develop reverse supply chain sourcing strategies in a given product vertical.
  • Define cost drivers, develop cost models and establish should cost analysis.
  • Lead Request for Proposal (RFP), contract negotiations, and the supplier selection process.
  • Understand the technical roadmap and industry trends that impact long-term needs.
  • Manage supplier relationships and performance in alignment with technology, cost, quality, and delivery drivers by partnering closely with stakeholders in Hardware( HW), Manufacturing, and Test Engineering functions.
