Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital is hiring a Certified Medical Assistant for our Oncology and Hematology Clinic at the Phillips Cancer Center. This is a full-time, Day shift position in Charlottesville, VA.

Hours: Four 9-hour shifts, 8AM to 5PM between Monday to Friday with rotating days off. No nights or weekends.

Sign on bonus of $5,000 available for qualified candidates.

About the position:

The Oncology Clinic Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) will assist six physicians and three advanced practice providers within the physician's clinic group at the Cancer Center with rooming patients, vital signs, IV placement, patient intake, and phlebotomy. The Center can expect to see between 80-90 patients per day. The team at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hematology and Medical Oncology Associates have expert knowledge of a variety of cancer treatments, including:

Chemotherapy

Biotherapy

Hormonal therapy

Targeted therapy

A broad range of supportive therapies to reduce or prevent anticipated side effects of treatment are available. The Sentara Martha Jefferson Infusion Center is on site at our offices, offering a safe, convenient and comfortable environment where patients can receive intravenous infusions and therapeutic injections.

The Medical Assistant provides an environment for safety; identifies, addresses, and incorporates principles of safety for the patient, visitors, and employees. Provides patient care tasks and procedures and administrative duties (as appropriate). Demonstrates the ability to objectively assess a specific situation from a number of viewpoints considers an array of alternatives, assists with the development of realistic action plans and evaluates outcomes. Demonstrates the development of the specific skills and knowledge required of medical assistants, effective inter-departmental interactions, and ability to follow department and system policies, procedures, and practices. Productive and efficient in daily operations. Utilizes appropriate resources that are safe, effective, ethical, and fiscally responsible.

Education

High School Graduate or Equivalent required

Advanced Studies in Medical Assisting Preferred

Certification/Licensure

BLS required within 90 days of hire

One of the following certifications is required upon hire: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), or EMT Basic Certification (EMT).

Experience

2 years of Clinic Experience preferred

1 year of clinical experience required

Oncology or Hematology experience preferred

Vital Signs and intake experience preferred

Phlebotomy experience preferred

Medical Terminology and Data entry experience required
